Titre : Elements of civil engineering and engineering mechanics Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : M.N. Shesha Prakash, Auteur ; Ganesh B. Mogaveer, Auteur Editeur : New Delhi : PHI Learning Année de publication : 2010 Importance : 280 p. Présentation : couv. ill. en coul. Format : 24 CM. Accompagnement : CD ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-81-203-3700-8 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Livres Index. décimale : 624 Génie civil Résumé : It is a basic under-graduate textbook for first-year students of all branches of engineering, though especially designed to conform to the syllabus of Visvesaraya Technological University (VTU). The book imparts basic knowledge in various facets of civil engineering and the related engineering structures and infrastructure such as buildings, roads, highways, dams and bridges, inter alia, emphasizing the role and responsibilities of a civil engineer in modern society. It also briefly explains the broad scope of allied fields of civil engineering such as surveying, transportation, water resources, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, and construction technology. The Engineering Mechanics portion of the book is comprehensively covered in eight chapters divided into topics on Forces, Centroid, Moment of Inertia and Friction. Each chapter introduces the concepts to the reader gradually and stepwise. Providing a wealth of practice examples, the book emphasizes the importance of building strong analysis skills. Practice problems at the end of each chapter give students opportunities to absorb concepts and hone their problem-solving skills. This book has a companion CD containing software, developed using MS Excel, to work out the problems on Forces, Centroid, Friction and Moment of Inertia. It would help faculty to develop new kind of problems with reliable solutions for use in tests and examinations. The use of this software will enable the students to understand the concepts in a relatively better way. They will also be able to compare answers with those obtained using manual procedures. Titre : Sponge Iron Production by Direct Reduction of Iron Oxide Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Amit Chatterjee, Auteur Mention d'édition : Second edition Editeur : New Delhi : PHI Learning Année de publication : 2014 Importance : 355 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-81-203-4659-8 Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Livres Tags : Unités de fer alternatives Principes fondamentaux de la réduction directe Fours rotatifs Réduction directe à base de gaz Fabrication du fer et de l'acier Index. décimale : 671 Travail des métaux et produits métalliques semi-finis Résumé : This book provides a fascinating study of the very important emerging field of direct reduction in which iron ore is ‘directly reduced’ in the solid-state, using either natural gas or non-coking coal, to produce a highly metallised material, referred to as sponge iron (or direct reduced iron). This intermediate product is subsequently melted in electric arc furnaces or induction furnaces (sometimes even in basic oxygen furnaces) to produce liquid steel. Such a process combination enables steel to be produced without using coking coal, which is an expensive input in the normal blast furnace—basic oxygen furnace route of steelmaking adopted in integrated steel plants.
The book offers comprehensive coverage and critical assessment of various coal-based and gas-based direct reduction processes. Besides dealing with the application of the theoretical principles involved in the thermodynamics and kinetics of direct reduction, the book also contains some worked-out examples on sponge iron production. The concluding part of this seminal book summarises the present and future scenario of direct reduction, including the use of gas generated from coal in direct reduction processes.
The book is primarily intended for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of metallurgical engineering. It is also a must-read for researchers, technologists and process metallurgists engaged in the rapidly developing field of direct reduction of iron oxides, which is of critical importance for India and other developing nations that are beginning to play a major role in global steelmaking.Sponge Iron Production by Direct Reduction of Iron Oxide [texte imprimé] / Amit Chatterjee, Auteur . - Second edition . - New Delhi : PHI Learning, 2014 . - 355 p.
